Rainbow Medicine — Complementary Wellness
Crystals are the earth's own medicine — shaped over millennia, carrying within them the vibration of time, pressure, and elemental forces. At Rainbow Medicine, they form part of a mindful, integrative approach to healing that extends the work of acupuncture and TCM.
Where Ancient Systems Meet
Traditional Chinese Medicine and crystal therapy share a foundational understanding: that health is a matter of energy. In TCM, the concept of Qi — the vital life force — flows through a network of meridians, and when this flow is disrupted, disharmony in body and mind results. Acupuncture, herbal medicine, and bodywork all work to restore this flow. Crystals, in complementary practice, are understood to carry their own vibrational quality — an energetic signature shaped by their mineral composition, crystalline structure, and the conditions under which they formed.
This is not a claim of magic or mysticism. It is an invitation to a different kind of attention — the deliberate, intentional use of a beautiful natural object as a grounding tool, a mindfulness anchor, and a reminder of what you are working towards in your healing. Dr Christine Shen integrates crystal therapy into Rainbow Medicine as exactly this: a mindfulness and grounding tool that complements the clinical rigour of acupuncture and Chinese Medicine practice.
Many patients find that holding or placing a specific crystal during acupuncture deepens their relaxation and helps them stay present during the session. Others use crystals between appointments — on their bedside table, at their desk, or during meditation — as a tangible reminder of their intention to heal. Dr Shen has personally selected a curated collection of crystals to support the most common presentations she treats.
Both TCM and crystal therapy recognise that matter is not inert. In TCM, Qi animates every cell and organ; in mineral science, the atomic lattice of a crystal vibrates at frequencies determined by its composition. Crystal therapy works with these properties as a meditative tool — the patient's focused attention, combined with the crystal's presence, creates a mindful state that supports healing.
Healing requires intention — the deliberate directing of attention and will toward a goal. Crystals serve as beautiful, tactile anchors for this intention. Between sessions, a crystal on your desk or beside your bed holds your healing intention in physical form — a daily reminder of the work you are doing and the change you are seeking. Dr Shen encourages patients to choose a stone that resonates and carry it with them.

Continuing the Work
The healing you initiate in the clinic continues — or is interrupted — by what happens between appointments. Crystals offer a simple, intentional way to maintain the energy and awareness cultivated in your sessions.
01
Hold your chosen crystal in both hands, or place it on the relevant area of the body, while you breathe slowly and bring your intention to mind. Even five minutes of deliberate stillness with a crystal amplifies its grounding effect.
02
Amethyst, lepidolite, moonstone, and smoky quartz are the pre-eminent sleep and rest crystals. Place one on your bedside table or under your pillow to support deeper, more restful sleep between sessions.
03
A citrine or clear quartz on your desk supports focus and positive energy in your working environment. Tiger's eye helps maintain confidence and direction during demanding work periods.
04
Small tumblestones of black tourmaline, lepidolite, or rose quartz can be carried daily — held during moments of stress, turned in the hand during difficult conversations, or simply felt as a reminder of your healing intention.
05
Crystals benefit from periodic cleansing to clear any accumulated energy. Place them in moonlight overnight, rinse water-safe stones under running water, or use sound (a singing bowl or tuning fork). Set your intention when you return them to use.
06
You are welcome to bring your crystals to your acupuncture session. Many patients find that holding or placing their stone during treatment deepens the sense of grounding and presence, and extends the effects of the needling into their daily ritual.
